Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association
The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (12:35): I move:
(1)That this House notes that:
(a)Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association celebrated its fiftieth anniversary at a gala dinner held on Saturday 19 July 2025,
(b)Special guests in attendance included:
(i)Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor of the Hills Shire Council;
(ii)Councillor Frank De Masi, Deputy Mayor of the Hills Shire Council;
(iii)Councillor Vincent De Luca, OAM, Northern Beaches councillor and volunteer director, Netball NSW;
(iv)Mrs Sallyanne Faulkner, volunteer chair, Netball NSW;
(v)Mrs Carol Murphy, OAM, volunteer director and life member, Netball NSW and life member and former president of Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association;
(vi)Mrs Julie Fitzgerald, AM, elite coach; and
(vii)Ms Natalie Avalino, former Australian Diamonds representative.
(c)in 1972, the Baulkham Hills Sporting Club, still playing under the Blacktown Netball Association, sought to create a local association in the then Baulkham Hills shire;
(d)committees were formed and representatives gathered from Castle Hill, Glenorie, North Rocks, Winston Hills and Baulkham Hills, each bringing a shared dream to create an association that would represent locals, players, families and the growing community;
(e)in 1974, perseverance bore fruit and the first executive was elected, with Pam Noble taking the helm as president and Lorraine Everitt, inaugural umpires' convenor, a woman who helped set the tone for integrity and excellence on Baulkham Hills shire's courts from the very beginning;
(f)with just seven courts at Ted Horwood Reserve and 28 eager teams, the Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association held its first competition and by the very next year, 56 teams had registered;
(g)through persistence of its founding members, by late 1975, Netball NSW formally recognised Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association as an association in its own right;
(h)over the decades since 1975, numerous members have contributed significant voluntary service and been awarded life membership:

(ii)1984, Jan Fontana;
(iii)1988, Annette Rowe;
(iv)1990, Leanne Perigo;
(v)1992, Cathy Aird;
(vi)1992, Judy Dunbar (deceased);
(vii)1992, Bronwyn Williams;

(ix)1995, Laurel Cunico;
(x)1995, Margaret Govett (deceased);
(xi)1996, Betty O'Keefe;

(2)That this House:
(a)commends and congratulates Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association on its fiftieth anniversary; and
(b)commends and acknowledges Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association's executive committee and life members on their outstanding service over the decades to ensure the success of the sport in the Hills Shire local government area.
