The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (12:40): I move:

(1)That this House notes that:

(a)the Northern Rivers Rail Trail has been named a finalist in two categories at the 2025 NSW Tourism Awards, recognising its contribution to tourism, recreation, and regional development across the Northern Rivers;

(b)the rail trail project, developed through collaboration between Tweed Shire Council and partner councils, has transformed sections of former railway corridors into a shared public space for walking, cycling, and outdoor recreation;

(c)the trail has attracted strong public interest and positive feedback from residents and visitors alike, strengthening local businesses, tourism opportunities, and community connections in the region;

(d)the project highlights how regional partnerships and adaptive reuse of existing infrastructure can deliver long‑term benefits in sustainable tourism, health, and environmental awareness; and

(e)its recognition at the NSW Tourism Awards underscores the growing value of community driven projects that celebrate regional identity and promote active lifestyles.

(2)That this House:

(a)congratulates Tweed Shire Council, the Northern Rivers Rail Trail team, partner councils, and local volunteers for their achievement;

(b)acknowledges the rail trail's contribution to community wellbeing, regional tourism, and sustainable recreation; and

(c)encourages ongoing support for projects that foster innovation, environmental stewardship, and economic vitality across rural and regional New South Wales.
