Business Uralla
The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (10:09): I move:
(1)That this House notes that:
(a)the Uralla Shire Business Chamber has officially rebranded itself as Business Uralla, in order to clearly distinguish its identity from local government and emphasise its independent advocacy role for local business and community interests;
(b)the rebranding was accompanied by a revitalised executive team, as Beth Platford has become the new president, succeeding Col Hull, Anne Rix is the new vice president, succeeding Claire Mailler, Teresa French has been elected secretary, and David Mailler continues in the treasurer role;
(c)the new logo, inspired by the infinity symbol, expresses the symbiotic and ongoing relationship between the business sector and the local community—one cannot thrive without the other;
(d)Business Uralla has signalled its priorities for the coming year will include:
(i)strengthening collaboration with sporting, cultural, and government bodies to expand the visitor economy;
(ii)organising a Small Business Month networking event in Uralla;
(iii)engaging in advocacy around development application processes and reducing barriers to growth caused by the cost pressures of rates, water, power and bureaucracy; and
(iv)repositioning Uralla as a destination in its own right, not merely a stopping point en route to Sydney or Brisbane.
(e)the chamber's renewed vision underscores the evolving role of local business advocacy in driving regional resilience, cohesion, economic growth, and community vibrancy across New South Wales.
(2)That this House:
(a)congratulates Business Uralla, its new leadership, and its members on the rebrand and their renewed strategic direction;
(b)affirms the importance of empowered, autonomous local business chambers in providing a direct voice for small and medium enterprises in regional communities, especially in places like Uralla;
(c)supports the chamber in its efforts to reduce regulatory and cost-of-business burdens, attract visitors and new enterprises, and help local businesses engage better with government and community partners; and
(d)encourages all members of this House to engage with and back local chambers of commerce and business groups across New South Wales, as essential intermediaries that strengthen local economies, networks and social capital.
Motion agreed to.
