(1)That this House notes that:
(a)on Friday 8 August 2025 Manly Warringah Netball Association, previously Manly Warringah Women's Basketball Association, celebrated its sixtieth anniversary as an affiliated Association to Netball NSW having previously been a group from 1955;
(b)Special guests included:
(i)Roslyn De Luca, OAM, nee Smith, foundation and life member Manly Warringah Netball Association and captain of the first ever Open Representative Team in 1966 together with members of that original team Janet Beeby, nee Thomas and Anka Cveticanin, nee Janjic, who cut the anniversary cake with current president, Nicole Carter;
(ii)Michael Regan, member for Wakehurst; Sue Heins, Mayor of Northern Beaches Council; Councillor Ruth Robins, Deputy Mayor; Councillor Vincent De Luca, OAM, Volunteer Director Netball NSW; and Councillor Jody Williams;
(iii)Carol Murphy, OAM, volunteer director and life member Netball NSW; and
(iv)Maureen Boyle, OAM, life member Manly Warringah Netball Association, Netball NSW, Netball Australia and World Netball and former Australian Team umpire and official at numerous Commonwealth Games, world championships, tests series, national championships and other elite competitions.
(c)in 1954, Pam Hall and Iris Gracie, realising the popularity of women's basketball, sent a letter to local businesses, department stores, swimming clubs and other organisations enquiring whether there was any interest in forming a local Manly Warringah competition;
(d)in 1955 the Manly Warringah Women's Basketball Group was founded and life member of New South Wales Women's Basketball Association and experienced administrator Mrs Marie Devlin was elected its first president to oversee this new group of dedicated women and the first ever local competition was held in 1955 while, at the same time, the West Dee Why club still entered their elite teams in the city competition;
(e)by 1965 the group had become so large and successful that moves were made for the group to become a fully‑fledged association affiliated with then NSW Women's Basketball Association and at a meeting of the Manly Warringah Women's Basketball Group held at the Dispensary Hall, Manly on 18 August 1965 it was moved that Manly Warringah Women's Basketball Group become a fully affiliated association of NSW Women's Basketball Association;
(f)on 22 November 1965, in honour of the outstanding service of Marie Devlin, she was made the first life member of Manly Warringah Women's Basketball Association;
(g)the first general meeting of the association was conducted on 14 February 1966 at the Civic Centre Hall, Manly Vale, and it was resolved that Mrs (Later Lady) Molly Askin become the association's patron and Les Wiltshire ,OAM, the association's auditor, the first president of the association was Joy Lister, secretary Beryl Foder (McDougall), treasurer Jan Watts, assistant secretary Iris Gracie, umpires' convenor Gwen Petherbridge, publicity officer S. Johnstone, social convenor Janet Thomas (Beeby), minute secretary Margaret Hindmarsh and junior secretaries Pam Hall and Mrs Jean Gee, OAM;
(h)the association's first grading committee consisted of: Evelyn Langbein, Roslyn Smith (De Luca, OAM), Myrtle Loudon, Jean Gee, OAM, P. Smith, Jan Watts, Gwen Petherbridge, Jeanette Melville, Mrs Hubbard, Mrs Naylor, Miss Joy, Margaret Hindmarsh, Miss McDonald, Norma Ward, Mrs Reid, Mrs Ramsay, Mrs Harper, Mrs Spence, Mrs S Johnstone and Sue Thomas (Jenkins);

(a)commends and congratulates the Manly Warringah Netball Association on its sixtieth anniversary; and
(b)acknowledges and commends Manly Warringah Netball Association's executive committee and life members for their outstanding service to netball in the northern beaches local government area.
