Youth Parliament
The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (12:40): I move:
That this House:
(a)commends the Youth Parliament for providing students in years 10 to 12 across the State with valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of civics, advocacy, and the parliamentary process;
(b)notes that in 2025, students from 73 of the 93 New South Wales electorates participated, reflecting strong statewide representation and diversity, including voices from minority groups and young people living with disabilities;
(c)recognises Youth Parliament's role in engaging a broad range of young people, including those who are typically under‑represented in leadership, and creating a safe, inclusive environment where all participants feel supported and valued;
(d)highlights the bill development and the Youth Sitting Week in New South Wales Parliament, where young individuals debate bills and deliver community recognition statements;
(e)acknowledges the nine youth bills debated in 2025, addressing issues such as youth justice, First Nations empowerment, education and career pathways, regional development, mental health, and women's representation in medical research; and
(f)encourages ongoing support for Youth Parliament as a vital program that nurtures the next generation of civic leaders and fosters meaningful engagement between young people and decision makers.
Motion agreed to.
