Tribute to Father Chris Riley, AM
The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (10:10): I move:
That this House:
(a)extends to the family of the late Father Chris Riley, AM, the deep sympathy of the members of the Legislative Council in the loss sustained by his passing on 1 August 2025, at the age of 70;
(b)expresses its sincere gratitude for Father Riley's service to the uplifting of underprivileged youth, who during his decades‑long, selfless dedication to children and youth, was a beacon of hope for the most vulnerable that continues to inspire and serve as an example in transforming the lives of young people;
(c)acknowledges the monumental success of the Youth Off the Streets charity founded by Father Riley in 1991 in having lit a path in and transforming the lives of tens of thousands of children and youth, a program that started as a single food van in Kings Cross and turned into a lifesaving organisation, providing support, education pathways and crisis accommodation to young people experiencing homelessness across New South Wales;
(d)pays tribute to and honours his legacy, vision and steadfast belief in the enormous potential of every young person; and
(e)presents its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the Youth Off the Streets community.
Motion agreed to.
