The Hon. Leslie Williams, Former Member for Port Macquarie
The Hon. AILEEN MacDONALD (10:02): I move:
(1)That this House recognises the outstanding service of the Hon. Leslie Williams, who represented the Port Macquarie electorate for 14 years, making her the longest serving member for the seat.
(2)That this House notes that Mrs Williams resigned from the Legislative Assembly on 31 January 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated representation, hard work and genuine care for her community.
(3)That this House acknowledges that when Mrs Williams was elected in 2011 Port Macquarie had been neglected under 16 years of Labor government and through her relentless advocacy she fought for the infrastructure and services the region deserved, including but not limited to:
(a)the duplication of Ocean Drive;
(b)the major upgrade of the Pacific Highway;
(c)the redevelopment of Hastings Secondary College;
(d)upgrades to local surf clubs and fire stations; and
(e)numerous other community projects that have strengthened the region.
(4)That this House honours Mrs Williams' service as a Parliamentary Secretary, Cabinet Minister and Deputy Speaker, where she was respected for her fairness, wisdom and steady leadership.
(5)That this House further recognises Mrs Williams' deep commitment to Aboriginal affairs and early childhood education, areas where she worked tirelessly to drive meaningful reform.
(6)That this House pays tribute to Mrs Williams not only as a dedicated representative but as a friend and mentor to many in New South Wales Parliament, and from the moment the Hon. Aileen MacDonald, MLC, met Mrs Williams, she was warm, welcoming and always willing to offer advice and support, qualities that define her interactions with colleagues on all sides of politics.
(7)That this House acknowledges her role as the chair of the Parliamentary Advisory Group, where she championed respectful and productive dialogue to improve outcomes within Parliament.
(8)That this House expresses appreciation for her service and extends its best wishes to Mrs Williams, her children, Ben and Meredie, and their families as they embark on the next chapter.
Motion agreed to.
